APAMA ROV expands offshore capability
Revelare Hydrospatial has expanded its offshore capability with the acquisition of the APAMA remotely operated vehicle (ROV), providing clients with new options for subsea inspection, monitoring, data retrieval and asset recovery.
Developed by Australian subsea technology company Southern Ocean Subsea Pty Ltd (SoSub), the APAMA ROV is the latest addition to Revelare Hydrospatial's growing portfolio of offshore technologies. Recent sea trials undertaken during mobilisation for the Hydroscheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) survey successfully demonstrated contactless subsea sensor downloads, remote operations and subsea inspection capabilities.
A key outcome of the trials was the successful demonstration of a contactless subsea sensor download solution developed collaboratively by Revelare Hydrospatial and SoSub. The capability enables data to be retrieved from seabed-mounted sensors without physically recovering or disturbing the equipment.
For clients undertaking long-term monitoring programs, this capability provides faster access to information and opens new possibilities for retrieving data from subsea infrastructure that would traditionally need to be recovered before data could be accessed.
Jennifer Brindle, General Manager of Revelare Hydrospatial, said the successful deployment of APAMA demonstrates how new technologies can translate into meaningful outcomes offshore.

In addition to sensor downloads, the APAMA ROV provides a new capability for subsea inspection and asset recovery. Equipped with cameras and lighting systems, the vehicle can capture colour imagery and video of seabed infrastructure, environmental conditions and underwater features of interest.
This capability enables clients to gain visual confirmation of subsea assets and conditions, providing valuable context alongside survey and environmental datasets.
The sea trials also demonstrated APAMA's remote operations capability, with the ROV successfully operated by a shore-based pilot via Starlink communications. The trial highlighted the flexibility of the system and demonstrated how specialist expertise can be accessed to support offshore operations when required.
SoSub Director/CEO Jennifer Ford said the successful trials demonstrated the value of Australian innovation and collaboration in advancing offshore operations.
